Styx Chicago Concert reviews
GREAT SHOW
Don Felder and Styx put on a great show at the Saint Augustine Amphitheatre. Here are a couple of tips if you plan to see a show there. If you want to park in the parking lot adjacent to the Amphitheatre, I would suggest buying the parking pass with your ticket. The lot was sold out when we arrived one hour prior to the show. There are locals who sell space in their driveways within a half mile walk of the venue as well as free parking at at local campground two miles away with shuttle service. Also i would purchase tickets at the box office to avoid the online markup if you can. Two $40 tickets ended up costing $129 through Ticketmaster.
Styx concert in the Township Auditorium on Friday
I have seen Styx more than any other band over my 45 years of going to concerts. I put this band on par with my other favorites, Prince, Springsteen, and McCartney, all of which I have seen multiple times. Tommy Shaw is one of my heroes who I looked up to in my mid-teen years in the 70s.
So that being said, I am bias. This was the third time seeing this lineup for the band, the last one being in Augusta, GA back in 2021. Perhaps having seen basically the same concert not too long ago had something to do with my feeling like the band was a little off on this one. I was very happy to hear Pieces of 8 and Loreli which they didn't play in Augusta (Both songs were great!). I didn't think there was any problem with the production, singing, or playing. Everything sounded great. I thought they might be a little tired. Shaw is six years older than me and I don't think I could bring that much energy and performance so often as this band does. I suppose there's only so many leg kicks you can make.
That being said, I still enjoyed it very much and look for to seeing them again if I'm lucky enough. They are a great band and should be in the R&R Hall of Fame (I suppose that's another story). Here's to Tommy and the band keeping the Rock and Roll Show going!
Thanks, EdG
